Thread: Animation Export Issue

    Default Animation Export Issue

Hi all. I'm hoping that someone has an idea (and solution) about this. So far I have built, textured and rigged my model for the portfolio work. I've started with a simple jumping animation and all seemed fine. However, when I export this to be viewed, this strange distortion/stretch in the mesh seems to occur- in every model viewing programme. I've no idea what is causing this as it is only visible in one of these programmes and not in 3ds max itself. My only clue is that it could be related to the dummy that is produced at the base of the model (the little white cube) containing the animation keys and only appears once it is exported as a .fbx file. I was planning to spend this entire day creating several animations so that I could enjoy some time off, but this tiny problem has put a huge spanner in the works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My first steps would be to double and triple check all your vertex weighting. Check nothing is being influenced by a wrong bone, or not influenced by anything at all.
Also, check you don't have any 5 (or more) sided polys or any isolated vertexs.

    I hope this helps

Thank you for your advice! Yes, it was a simple skinning error whereby a few rogue vertices somehow weren't influenced by their bones. I do have one additional problem, which is that the viewport menu which is usually displayed in the top left corner has mysteriously vanished. Do you know where I might find the option to enable it again? Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

As you can see, the problem is fixed:
